About Qasr and how this works
What is Qasr?
Qasr (Arabic: قصر) is the shortening of certain obligatory prayers while traveling. Four-rak'ah prayers (Dhuhr, Asr, Isha) are shortened to two rak'ahs. Fajr (2 rak'ahs) and Maghrib (3 rak'ahs) are not shortened.
Qur'anic basis
"And when you travel throughout the land, there is no blame upon you for shortening the prayer..." — Qur'an 4:101
Prophetic practice
"It is an act of charity which Allah has done to you, so accept His charity." — Sahih Muslim 686a
